Cynthia was able to begin her career by moving from New York and pursuing a job as a fashion model. The model signed a five-year contract by Wihelmina Models. She then became the face of Essence Magazine. Cynthia's first cover was among Essence's most well-loved covers as well as an instant favorite with the editor-in-chief at the time, Susan Taylor. Cynthia would soon book her second cover. This set her career in motion. Her next move was to Paris and Milan and Milan, in which she strutted down the runways of Paris as well as Milan Fashion Week.
